ALBERT

Genre: Psychological Thriller
Country: Australia
Language: English
Production: 2009/2010
Duration: 90’
Budget: US$4 million
Production Company: White Light Productions

ALBERT is a lonely, troubled man who lives with his cousin Sarah as if they were husband and wife. They grew up together after the death of their parents under tragic circumstances that scared them both for life.

Albert is solidly built but ineffective. He spends most of his days in a dream until one day that dream becomes a reality. Or does it? Are the apparently strange events at the hotel where he works part of a plot or his imagination? Neither Albert nor the audience can be sure.

When Albert discovers a bloodstained sheet in the laundry his imagination goes wild, compounded by the mysterious disappearance of a guest. Albert is frustrated as he tries to convince everyone he is not dreaming this. When he is unable to produce the blood stained sheet he shifts his suspicions to a new guest, a man in a brown suit who seemed to have entered into some conspiracy with the manager and his uncle, the hotel’s owner.

It is a mystery designed to keep the audience off balance, wondering until the end while drawing on their sympathy for Albert and the obstacles he must face in a frightening world, which forces him to hide in his own fantasies in order to cope.

When those who care about Albert begin to suspect he might be right, it is too late to stop a series of events unfolding that will lead to a political incident. Albert, however, following his dream to be a real hero and not just one in his head, probes his suspicions and prevents the tragedy.

However the strain drives him over the edge. When Sarah returns home after having Albert committed to care, she discovers some of Albert’s darkest secrets.

ROOT OF EVIL

Genre: Drama
Country: Australia
Language: English
Production: 2010
Duration: 120’
Budget: US$4 million
Production Company: White Light Productions

Mayor Josephine Butler knows her community is doomed. Farmers and small businesses owners are about to lose their farms and businesses that have been in their families for generations to the banks.

When Mayor Butler agrees to use her community as a test site for a radical economic model suggested by George McCray, it is tantamount to declaring war on the government. The town cuts itself off from the outside world after stopping the circulation of money and securing near self-sufficiency with the aid of unused and innovative technology. The town becomes under fire from banks whose services are no longer required and local government that can’t  collect taxes from citizens who receive no income.

The community spirit is uplifted and pulls the town together in ways it had never been before. Tourists flock to the town, and find a community that is happy, contented and prosperous without the need for money.  A reporter, Howard Keen, who was highly sarcastic of the model, is convinced by what he sees and champions the town’s cause globally. This places a spotlight on the town that embarrasses the government and threatens big business interests.

Mayor Butler stands her ground and when the banks try to repossess properties in the town, she evicts the banks and has the people enforce her directive. She seizes the assets of big business like supermarkets to feed the town and gains the sympathy of many outsiders who establish an underground to smuggle in supplies when a blockade is established by law enforcers.

Finally the government, failing in its attempts to discredit the town as undermining the national interest sends in the military to storm the town. But they are ready and so are the press. The whole event is globally televised and Mayor Butler is seen as a hero forcing the government to back down, sowing the seeds for the collapse of the global economy as we know it and marking the birth of a new world order.

TYMAMID SYNOPSIS

In the 21st century, MIKE PHILLIPS, a security agent investigates a series of mysterious deaths surrounding an exhibition of Egyptian artefacts that were found by his great-grandfather some eighty years before. The resulting investigation not only leads to the tragic death of Mike’s fiancé but also betrayal by an old friend.

When an Egyptian chest from the exhibition goes missing, international powers fight to recover the chest behind a cloak of secrecy and deception that eventually pits Mike against his own agency. During his search Mike crosses paths with FOSTER BRYANT AND TANESHA HOWARD, who he discovers are from the future and that the chest contains the “Tymamid” which was sent here by accident when an experiment in the 28th century went disastrously wrong.

Mike is compelled to help them then finds himself being hurled back through time to Ancient Egypt where they find themselves guests of Pharaoh Akhenaten and Queen Nefertiti. These demigods believe their visitors are messengers from the true sun god Aten, who has sent them to assist him in his struggle against the priests of the old religion.

Caught in the political events, Tanesha and the “Tymamid” are kidnapped and taken by the priests to the Temple of Karnak in Thebes while an attempt is made to assassinate Pharaoh, leaving him near death.  Given that Tanesha is the only doctor capable of saving Pharaoh, and the “Tymamid” their only means of returning home, Tanesha must be rescued to prevent Pharaoh’s premature death and enable them to uncover the event that has diverted this time stream along an alternative path that threatens their ability to return to the future they have in common.

In Thebes the time travellers find the mysterious figure, Tregan has followed them. He reveals his people have been watching the Earth for millennia and have their own plans for our future. After Tanesha is rescued from the Temple priests and Tregan, she wastes no time in curing Pharaoh and exposing the plot.

When they return to the 21st, they find a world ruled by a powerful scientific elite, who has used the “Tymamid” to gain undisputed world dominance. Given that history can only be changed by a conscious act committed with knowledge of the future, they are at a loss to discover how this law of time has been violated and moved them into this alternative reality.

In order to return to their time stream, they must travel back to Ancient Egypt and rectify the time change.  After they succeed, Mike must face the dilemma of whether to return home to the 21st century or start a new life in the 28th. He suspects the decision may not be entirely his own. It may depend on what threat Tregan poses to his home century.
