About Us
History of Whitelight Productions
Whitelight Productions (WLP) had its origins in 1981 as an adviser on Film Script Prospectuses for Investors into the Film Industry. In 2002 it entered into Script Development Programs with the Fellowship Of Australian Writers, an incorporated national not for profit writers organisation founded in 1928. (www.writers.asn.au)
In 2005, The Fellowship of Australian Writers after years of helping writers to develop scripts, poems and short stories decided to seek out ways of assisting these authors to get published. In the area of scripts it partnered with Whitelight Productions to investigate ways of funding these projects. With that in mind we went to Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and established a number of international contacts.
In that same year, WLP put together a syndicate to apply for the Film Licensed Investment Company (FLIC) status being offered by the Department of Communications, IT and the Arts. We were ultimately unsuccessful but our team consisted of well-known industry personalities and the slate of projects was impressive.
After that we developed an innovative investment package in partnership with IOOF to offer investors a better deal under 10BA tax break program with a view to raise $10 million per year. This project was shelved when 10BA was abolished on 1st July 2007.
In July 2006, we commenced work on producing a 96 minute feature documentary entitled “Mask of Deception” which was completed a year later in July 2007 and shown privately in Community Centres around Melbourne in late 2007. Over 700 DVDs have been sold or used for promotional purposes since October 2007 and continue to be sold from our website at www.maskofdeception.com
In 2009, we commenced work in partnership with the Fellowship of Australian Writers to produce a number of half hour programs for Television. These include:
- “Take One” – a six-part anthology of student short films.
- “Probing the News” – a six-part discussion panel on community issues.
- “It Takes Two” – a six part anthology of ten minute duologues.
- “Is it Doing Me Harm?” – an investigative series on our environment and its effect on health issues
